Built Together, Rooted in Louisiana

Before we met, we were both moving through Orlando—Universal, UCF, and some of the same places—without knowing each other. Years later, we finally connected. Now we’re raising a family in Austin and building Everyday Alchemy Coffee together.

The name holds a little of us both: Every comes from Dom’s last name, and Al comes from Ali. Dom makes the recipes. Ali brings the coffee experience and creative eye. There’s usually something steeping, a label being adjusted, and another idea we’re trying to find time for.

We’re a Black- and queer-owned business making coffee out of flavors that mean something to us. Louisiana family recipes started the conversation. Everyday Alchemy is what we’re making of them together.

Dominic “Dom” Every

Co-Founder

Dom grew up in Lottie, Louisiana, just outside Baton Rouge, with family roots reaching into Houma and Thibodaux. He started cooking alongside his grandpa Walker at five. His grandmother, mom and aunt had plenty to teach him, too—and their names and recipes still show up in what he makes.

He entered culinary school at sixteen, with Chef Chris Wadsworth becoming a mentor. Years in kitchens and behind coffee counters gave him the skills to turn familiar flavors into something of his own. With Everyday Alchemy, that might mean his grandmother’s caramel cake in a latte or praline and chicory in a bottle carrying his grandpa’s name.

There’s more to his story than work. Dom left the Jehovah’s Witnesses at eighteen, came into himself as a trans man at twenty-three, and later lost his wife, Mads. Those experiences are part of him. So are his humor, his curiosity, and how much he loves being a dad.

These days, he’s building this business with Ali and cooking through Kin & Cayenne. He wants to make a living doing what he knows, give his family something steady, and serve food and coffee he’s proud to put his name on.

Ali Birks, co-founder of Everyday Alchemy Coffee, barista and creative director.

Ali grew up between Kissimmee, Florida, and Denton, Texas, as one of nine children across two families. An arts high school, theater productions and a love of photography gave her plenty of ways to be creative. She still notices the light, the colors, and the little details that can change how something feels.

She studied at USF and UCF, earning her bachelor’s degree in sociology, and has more than seven years of experience behind coffee bars. Her work in Austin restaurants—including Italic, Snooze AM Eatery and Counter 3.FIVE.VII—and corporate property management taught her how to handle a busy room and keep track of what people need.

At home, she’s Mama to Theo, our Halloween baby. She’s thoughtful, quietly witchy, and particular about getting things right. Her neurodivergent mind is part of how she sees and works, and we’re building a business that makes room for both of us to be ourselves.

Ali brings the barista experience and leads Everyday Alchemy’s creative direction, from photos to the look of our bottles. If Dom is working out what goes into the cup, Ali is making sure everything around it feels like us.
